I’ve spend countless hours exploring trails here and would love to share some of my favorite spots with you. From peaceful lake hikes near Lake Merritt to challenging up-hill treks in the Berkeley Hills – there’s something for all levels of hikers. So grab your pack and let me show you some of my favorite ways to hit the trail in Oakland!
1. Redwood Regional Park
Redwood Regional Park is a beautiful park located in the Oakland hills. The park is home to a variety of hiking trails, including the Stream Trail, which follows a creek through the redwood forest. The park also has a number of picnic areas and playgrounds, making it a great place to spend a day with family or friends.
2. Joaquin Miller Park
Joaquin Miller Park is another great option for those looking to enjoy a day of hiking in Oakland. The park features a number of trails, including the Sunset Trail, which offers stunning views of the San Francisco Bay. The park also has a campground, making it an ideal spot for an overnight hike.
3. Anthony Chabot Regional Park
Anthony Chabot Regional Park is located in the East Bay and offers a variety of hiking trails with different difficulty levels. The park also has a lake where you can go fishing or swimming, and picnicking is allowed in certain areas.
4. Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve
Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve is located in the Oakland hills and features a variety of hiking trails with different difficulty levels. The preserve also has a number of historical sites, including an old volcano crater.
5. Lake Merritt Wildlife Area
Commonly referred to as The Lake, Lake Merritt Wildlife Area offers a popular 3.5 mile walking loop. Additionally, the area features over five miles of walking trails, as well as picnicking and birdwatching opportunities.
